Good Food Weekend

Good Morning and Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend!

I had a great weekend filled with some great food that I can’t wait to tell you all about. I’m going to keep this intro short because I just want to get to it! Linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!

I was off on Friday so I headed back to my hometown for a few different reasons. I needed to pick up prescriptions, a few more things from my dad’s, and to see my sister. It was a beautiful day to be driving!12571260_10157120556090377_1439547130_nMy sister and I went out to supper at our favourite restaurant/cafe and I had one of the best meals! I ordered one of the specials which means I was able to have a starter. I decided on the falafels to start and they were delicious!12584082_10157120556115377_1291318152_nMy main was a butternut squash and goat cheese pizza! I’ve never had something like this before and I was surprised by how much I loved it. I took one bite and I was in heaven!12583889_10157120556195377_1967006311_nAnd you can’t go out for supper and not get dessert! This cafe makes the best dessert crepes so I went with the special one of the week which was peanut butter cookie dough! Holy cow it was good!12571364_10157120556355377_1240723409_nThe rest of the evening was spent relaxing and going to bed early which is my kind of night (you know you’re old when).

I woke up Saturday excited since I was going to be heading to the market. I had one booth on my mind, but also wanted to check out one of my regulars. I stopped at the booth I almost always go to which is a raw food booth. They had a couple new things so I decided to try a chocolate peanut butter fudge and some kind of peppermint square. I meant to write down the names to include, but obviously was too focused on the food (what else is new).12575872_10157120556530377_1719112359_nI haven’t tried the peppermint square yet, but the fudge is pretty tasty!

My next stop was what I was looking forward to 🍩! My friend had invited me to like a page on Facebook a few weeks ago for a new vendor, a donut vendor at my local market! There’s never been one from what I can remember so I needed to check this one out! She only makes two kinds a week and I saw this week she was making salted caramel so I knew I had to get one! For those that don’t know, salted caramel is my jam! 12575913_10157120556465377_2048823766_nI had this baby on my way back to where I live now as my pre-workout and it did wonderful things for my workout! I had a really great chest and triceps workout before doing a little HIIT circuit that I made up. The circuit made me realize that I really need to up my cardio game which is something I’ve been wanting to work on!

I did all of this and was back home by 11:30 AM! I spent the afternoon doing some meal prep and helping my mom make healthier banana bread muffins!12584069_10157120556630377_180690255_nThese were some of the best homemade bananas I’ve ever made and am thinking about posting the recipe on here at some point (let me know if you’re interested in that)! I probably had three or four throughout the afternoon and evening with some butter because if you’re eating banana bread without butter or peanut butter you’re doing it wrong (in my opinion anyways)!

Nothing too exciting happened on Sunday since I worked 6:45-1:30, worked out, had a staff meeting, then came home to relax. I have been going to bed nice and early (like 9-9:30) the past three nights which has been absolutely wonderful, but that’s not exciting.

That was my weekend in a nutshell! As I’m finishing this, it’s 5:37 AM and I need to get my butt going so I can make it to the gym by 6:30!

I dropped the ball…

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you had a fantastic weekend and are set to take on the week!

I never meant to drop off the face of the blogging world at the end of last week, I just underestimated what starting work again would be like. I briefly mentioned it in my last post, but I started at my new job at a gym the middle of last week and it’s been a little crazy ever since.

Today’s post is much like my other Monday posts in that I’ll be updating you on my weekend (trust me, it isn’t that exciting), but I’ll also be recapping the end of last week since I disappeared.

Let’s take it back to Tuesday! I found out Tuesday morning that my letter of employment was ready and that my supervisor wanted to meet later that day! I quickly showered, threw some stuff in a suitcase and drove the hour and a half to my new job! After meeting with her, I headed to my mom’s house which is where I’ll be living because a) it saves me money and b) I’d rather not live on my own. The rest of that day was spent settling in and reading some work documents.

I was up bright and early on Wednesday to help my mom for a few hours before my first shift! My mom cleans houses so on top of my shifts at the gym, I’m going to be helping her a few days a week. I worked with her until just after lunch then headed to the gym. Right away I felt welcomed and I already know that I’m going to enjoy my time there.

I was able to sleep in on Thursday! I say sleep in, but I was awake around 8. I headed into town to get a workout in at my new gym before heading to work! Before I went to the gym, I had to stop at a grocery store to pick up a travel sized shampoo and body wash so I would be able to shower before my shift. While I was there, I noticed that they had Boom Chicka Pop Holidrizzle on sale for .99 cents!! I picked up the Dark Chocolatier Sea Salt and White Chocolate Peppermint flavours. Needless to say, they’re both gone and I can’t pick a favourite! They were both really good!

I had Friday off so I went back to my dad’s (where I used to live) to pick up a few more things since I packed in a rush on Tuesday. After that, I headed to the town that my university is in to meet up with some of my friends! I hadn’t seen them since September so it was great getting to catch up with them! I headed back to my mom’s Friday night since I had to work Saturday.

Saturday was much like Thursday in that I woke up, went to the gym before work, then worked. I’m starting to feel a lot more comfortable on the floor and am really enjoying myself!

I had Sunday off so I relaxed most of the day! I had a FaceTime date with Matthias and then I ran a few errands with my mom in the afternoon. Besides that, I caught up on reading blogs and watching YouTube videos!

First Weekend of 2016

Good Morning! Did you have a good weekend?

I’m ready to take on the first full week of 2016! I’m feeling extra motivated and have some fun things coming up this week to look forward to!

Since it’s Monday, I wanted to share a recap of my New Year’s Eve and the weekend! As always, I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!

Let’s start with New Year’s Eve! I actually didn’t take any pictures, but I had a lot of fun at my friend’s party.

Before the party, I smashed a great workout and had an even better post workout meal (snack really). Another bowl of Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Ice Cream! This time I topped it with Oreo and Candy Cane Kisses!12459878_10157040889820377_1044027300_nA lot of the people at the party were friends from high school who I always love to catch up with! I had a blast playing Survivor Flip Cup and Sociables as well as just chatting with everyone! Closer to midnight, I started to make grilled cheeses for everyone since my friend’s parents weren’t home yet. I wish I would have taken a picture of my workstation and everyone’s happy faces, but I was too busy. They were all very grateful! It was a really great night!

Friday morning started a little later than usual due to the late night, but I woke up feeling ready to take on the new year. I had a pretty relaxing morning and afternoon just hanging out and making to do lists.

Around supper time, my sister and I headed out to my Grammie’s to see my Aunt one last time before she headed back home to Toronto! We had a great ham and potato scallop supper with the best biscuits!

I was up early on Saturday with my sister to get my first workout of the new year in! We did a tough quad workout that has left me pretty sore. Following the gym, I headed to the market to pick up some veggies for a few days. Unfortunately, I got there a little later than I would have liked and there weren’t as many stands open as usual so I only managed to get two sad looking zucchinis.

However, one of the zucchinis made for a delicious lunch! I spiralized one and cooked it with garlic and pepper before topping it with a runny egg. I also had egg whites and a wedge of Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese!12483815_10157052173450377_976664651_nLater that night, I realized that I hadn’t really eaten that much during the day so I made probably the best nightcap bowl I’ve ever had! I made Salted Caramel Protein Ice Cream using a sample of Quest’s protein powder. To that, I added Butterscotch Ripple ice cream, caramel sauce, Nuts ‘N More Salted Caramel Peanut Butter, and a Kinder Egg Surprise! Can you tell I like caramel?12498790_10157052173485377_515939405_nI slept in a little later than usual on Sunday and spent the morning doing some cleaning, planning, and reading before heading to the gym for a chest and triceps workout. The rest of the day was spent watching tv marathons and completing an online training course for my new job I’ll be starting this week!

I’m really excited and also a little nervous to start working this week at my new job! I spent the summers of high school and university working at a water park so this is the first time I have a different job! It’s a little nerve wrecking, but I’m also really looking forward to be working somewhere doing something I’m passionate about. I’m sure I’ll be sharing more about it later so I won’t bore you with too much today!

Christmas Recap

Good Morning! I hope you had a great Christmas if you celebrate it and have been enjoying the holidays!

I had a wonderful time with family that I wish could last a couple days longer. Today, I wanted to share a recap of my Christmas on the blog! I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!

On Christmas Eve, my mom, her boyfriend, my aunt, and I went to the Christmas Eve service at the church by my grandmother’s. It was a pretty quick service, but it was nice to start Christmas out that way.

After church, my mom, her boyfriend, and I headed to my sister’s house to spend Christmas Eve with her and her girlfriend. We had taco dip, sweets, and played a couple board games! 12442814_10157029126085377_1783693295_nI had been wanting to play Life for awhile so we played that first!12434386_10157029126175377_1387496587_nI didn’t end up winning, but it was still really fun! We all headed to bed shortly after eleven. I knew I had a busy day ahead of me for Christmas so I wanted to get to sleep.12443225_10157029126045377_1506303326_nThis was my planner for Christmas Day and eat lots I did!

After waking up multiple times throughout the night, I got out of bed around 8 and started to make breakfast for everyone. I was making Monkey Bread while my sister got to work on the pancakes and eggs. 12459558_10157029126360377_2102966569_nAfter eating, we all gathered in the living room to open presents. I didn’t ask for anything so I was curious what I was going to get. My mom gave me some more kitchen stuff (including an awesome frying pan!) My sister surprised me with ski goggles! I’m excited to try them out a couple times this winter. I am so grateful for my family and what they gifted me this year.12436152_10157029126230377_1060420741_nLater that afternoon around 1:30 I sat down to the first of three turkey dinners in a 5 hour time frame. The first one was at my Grammie’s then I went to my dad’s and I finished off at my sister’s. My sister’s was definitely my favourite and I went back for a second plate plus I ate two pieces of pie.12431203_10157029126425377_130604480_n

It was a great day spent with people I love!

Boxing Day was another day I was looking forward to as we always go to my aunt and uncle’s for lunch. There was all kinds of food there as well as 10 different desserts! It was a great afternoon!

We were going to have lunch at my other aunt’s house yesterday, but we had a snowstorm that brought around 20cm of snow so it was cancelled.

All in all, it was a great few days spent with people I love and great food!

It’s Almost Here!

Good Morning! How was your weekend? Are you ready for Christmas?!

That’s right Christmas is a mere 4 days away! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by! I spent this weekend getting ready for this busy time of the year! I’m looking forward to sharing that with you in today’s post! Since it’s Monday, I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots! Now let’s get to my weekend recap!

I woke up Saturday ready to get a work out in! Let me tell you, I can get sore from a leg workout, but I have never had this much soreness, especially not in my glutes! I didn’t think I did anything special, but it felt really good to get a good workout in!

After the gym, I quickly came home to shower and get ready. I ran a couple errands for my Nan before heading to my mom’s house for the night! I had some holiday baking to get done for some presents and my mom was nice enough to let me use her kitchen to do it!

I had decided to go the baking route for presents this year because I really enjoy doing it and I love seeing people enjoying my baking. It was also nice since it was less expensive and I’m not working yet. I knew I wanted to make peanut butter balls, but also wanted to try out a recipe I found and shared a few posts ago.

To fancy up the peanut butter balls a little, I did 4 different kinds besides just plain! I topped some of them with skor bits and some with sprinkles.12395559_10157002158940377_269204935_nI also topped some with melted white chocolate and some with melted peanut butter chips, while some I left plain!1060271_10157002158915377_1501397947_nAs for the recipe I tried for the first time, I finally tried making one of Averie Cooks’ recipes! I have been reading her blog for about a year now and am always in awe at how good the food looks! I made the Softbatch No-Roll Holiday Sprinkle Cookies!

These cookies are some of the best cookies I have ever made! I didn’t add as many sprinkles as Averie did, but they are still very tasty (I had to try one to make sure they were good enough to give to people!) It was hard to stop at just one, but I did so that I would have cookies to give away!702758_10157002158885377_1240379422_nAfter spending quite a few hours on my feet baking and dipping, I was happy to sit down and relax.

In the morning, I packaged my goodies up and headed back home. My mom followed behind so I could jump in her car once I was back home. We had holiday deliveries to do! We spent a few hours dropping goodies off to people before having an early supper out!

That brings us to now! I’m currently typing this up while watching Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas on tv. There is also a sing along version of the Sound of Music on another channel that I’m flicking to on commercial breaks! I am seriously going to miss these Christmas specials once this week is over! I wish Christmas lasted longer than a day!

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

Good Morning! How was your weekend?

I spent part of the weekend getting into the holiday spirit and part of the weekend relaxing. I thought I would share what I got up to as well as some pictures I snapped. Since it’s Monday, it’s time to link up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!

The weekend started off with a morning workout on Saturday with my sister and her girlfriend. It’s been great getting back in the gym so I planned an upper body day for the three of us that has left us all sore! Later in the afternoon, we picked up some ingredients to make cookies and my sister’s Christmas tree!12386595_10156976813020377_179784907_nAfter we finished at the tree lot, we headed for a little fro yo! It had been ages since I had some so I was very excited!12366559_10156976813075377_1795113668_nOnce we got back to my sister’s place, we got to work on the cookie dough! While the cookies cooled, we watched a couple Christmas movies. I made a new friend, my sister’s girlfriend’s dog Bruce! He fell asleep with his head like that except it kept falling off my leg and it would wake him back up. 12387756_10156976813115377_1492011835_nSince I couldn’t move, my sister made supper for the three of us that we enjoyed a lot! She made bbq chicken pizza on pitas. They were really good!12351171_10156976813165377_1124962210_nAfter supper and playing 9 rounds of Scattergories, we set to work on decorating the cookies. I didn’t realize how tedious and time consuming it would be, but it really put me in the festive mood!12395304_10156976813250377_425886432_n12380247_10156976813195377_1696253988_nI woke up Sunday in a funk. I couldn’t seem to shake it so I decided to take the day for myself. I laid in bed for a long time, ran a couple of errands, and caught up on Nashville. As I’m writing up this post, I just finished a bowl of ice cream with a thin mint, gingerbread star, and an oreo. I’m also watching A Christmas Detour on tv. I think it’s important, especially around the busy holidays to take time for yourself. That’s why I didn’t mind taking a day to just chill.

That was my weekend! I’m hoping to get some things organized in the next few days and to start on my Christmas presents!

Back in Canada

Good Morning! Did you have a good weekend?

My first weekend back in Canada was pretty nice! I was able to see people I haven’t seen in awhile, eat things I haven’t been able to, and drive to places I haven’t been to since I’ve left.

Today, I’ll be sharing what I did during my first weekend back in Canada! I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots! Check out their link ups!

I’m going to start my weekend recap on Thursday which is the day I left Germany to fly home to Canada. Saying goodbye to Matthias was one of the most difficult things I’ve had to do. There were a lot of tears when I had to leave to go through security as well as throughout the day.

I flew from Hamburg to Amsterdam on my first flight so it was a very quick flight. I feel as though we landed on one end of Amsterdam Airport Schipol and I had to walk to the other end to get to my departure gate. I made it with plenty of time so I relaxed until boarding.

From Amsterdam, I would be flying to New York JFK Airport. On my way to Germany in September I was lucky to have my longest flight overnight. This time around, I had to spend 8 hours in an airplane during the middle of the day! Luckily, there was no one sat in the middle seat so the man in the aisle and myself at the window has plenty of space. However, I wasn’t able to sleep a wink. I watched Hot Pursuit with Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara first followed by Despicable Me 2. After that, I watched different tv shows to try and help pass the time. I was feeling pretty restless the last half of the flight. We did pass over the bottom of Greenland so I had a really pretty view for about 30 minutes.12336306_10156955968800377_319674975_n12346782_10156955968765377_1123366864_nWe finally landed in New York after 8 hours and I was off to find my next departure gate. I went through customs, rechecked my bag, went through security, and walked what felt like 4 miles to my gate. I had the most time in New York and I was feeling really antsy since I was so close to being home. I sat back and relaxed for awhile until boarding.12351133_10156955968815377_987392541_nFinally boarding was called and I was only two hours away from Canada! I sat next to the nicest older gentleman who was on his way home from Orlando with his family. We chatted quite a bit which helped pass the time. Throughout all of my flights, this was the flight I was hoping to sleep on, but I only got about a half hour. The city we were landing in had really low cloud cover and fog so we were only able to see lights about a minute before landing. That was a little sketchy, but I know the pilots have a lot of training in multiple situations so I wasn’t worried.

I got off the plane, went through customs, and got my back in probably twenty minutes before reuniting with my uncle who was picking me up. We headed back to his house where I promptly fell into bed since I had been awake for about 24 hours with the time difference. I didn’t sleep the best, but woke up Friday excited to be going home.

Later that afternoon, I was back in my hometown! My first stop was to see my Nannie and help my dad shovel her driveway. Yes, shovel! Nothing says welcome back to Canada like having to shovel!12325320_10156955968845377_1660018395_nThe rest of the day was spent trying to stay awake. I ended up falling asleep around 8 and waking up at 5 Saturday morning. I got up, showered, and headed to my sister’s house. I helped her out by shoveling part of her driveway and putting her duvet cover back on. After meeting her new girlfriend, we were off to the market! I was finally able to have some of my favourite food again. I found a booth there this summer that does raw and vegan foods. I’m by no means vegan, but her stuff is so good! We headed to the mall afterwards before heading out to meet up with my mom.

I helped my mom at the sale she was at until we packed up and headed back to her house. That night I fell asleep around 9, but again was up around 5 on Sunday morning. I left to head back to my hometown around 10 and decided to just take it easy the rest of the day. I really needed to get groceries, but decided to put it off until this morning. Last night, I fell asleep around 9:30 I think and then I woke up this morning around 5 again. And that brings us to now!

This time around, jet lag is kicking my butt! Although the early mornings aren’t so bad, it’s the falling asleep early in the evening. Well, I’m off to make my grocery list. Have a great Monday!
