That Time Of The Year

Hi Folks! Have you been having a good week?

I can’t believe it’s the last day of 2015! Like most people, around this time of the year I start to reflect on the year, what I’ve accomplished, what I’ve learned, and what I hope to do in the next year.

In today’s post, I’m going to talk about some of my goals for 2016 and take a look back at my goals from beginning of 2015. Since my thoughts are going to be all over the place, I thought I would link up with Amanda for the last TOLT of 2015!Thinking-Out-Loud

Last January, I made three goals for myself:

  1. Stop procrastinating with school work and finish my degree on Dean’s List. Well I did well with half of that goal haha. I still procrastinated a lot, but I did graduate on Dean’s List! It only took me 4 years to be on it, but I was very proud with my Dean’s List accomplishment!
  2. Go to the gym more. I had wanted to start going to the gym in January at least 3 times a week and just overall be more consistent with going. For most weeks, I was consistent and went, but once school started getting busy, it got cast to the side a little bit. Once I was home for the summer, I really got into a good routine that I’ve started up again since being home from Germany.
  3. Worry less. I’ve always been a worrier and this has actually gotten worse in the last few months of the year

Over the last half of the year, I also started making goals monthly or weekly since having one big one was a little daunting. This is something I want to continue into this year too! I think it’s important to either end your day with your goals and things you have to do the next day or to start the day by doing it. I found my most productive days were the days I did that.

I’d also like to share my goals to start the year with. These are overall ones I would like to accomplish for the year. I still plan to do monthly, weekly, or daily goals, but I like having bigger ones for the year too!

  1. Blogging: In 2016, I want to take blogging more seriously. I’ve found over the past few months that I’ve really loved doing it and being consistent with it. I’d like to come up with a schedule for posts and plan them out better. I’m also thinking about hosting with Bluehost.
  2. Gym:  I know, I know, everyone says working out more, but I have more specific goals this year. I’ve always hated cardio, but I enjoy how I feel after I’m done with it. I would like to start implementing more circuits or sprints to really get my heart rate up and to strengthen my heart. When I lift, my heart rate does go up, but I want to improve my cardiovascular health in 2016. I also want to work on my squats and deadlifts as well as having a plan when I go to the gym. Lately, I’ve been writing my workout out while I’m at the gym. I want to be better at having a plan before I walk into the gym!
  3. Anxiety: I’ve mentioned this in a few blog posts, but late in 2015, I’ve started experiencing anxiety for the first time. I would like to get help for this because I don’t want to live with the weight of it on me. If I can learn coping strategies and work to not have anxiety, I know I will enjoy things in my life a lot more!
  4. Food Choices: This past month I have been choosing convenience when it comes to my food choices. In 2016, I want to work on getting my micronutrients in more. I did pretty well in the summer when I was meal prepping for work, but haven’t really been doing that since work ended in September.

Those are my 4 big goals for 2016! Like I mentioned, I do think it’s beneficial to have smaller goals for the day, week or month, but having bigger goals for the whole year to work on are good too.

Anyways, that’s all from me today! I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Have fun and be safe!

What are your thoughts on New Years Goals/Resolutions?

Do you like having goals for the year or do you like having ones for the day, week or month?

WIAW #54

Good Morning! How is it already Wednesday!? And how is New Years Eve tomorrow night!?

I’m jumping on the bandwagon in saying this, but 2015 just flew right by! I’ve been thinking a lot the past few days about what I would like to accomplish in 2016 and writing down my goals. I’ll be sharing those tomorrow and I’m looking forward to having them out in the world as I find it helps with accountability.

However, it’s Wednesday which means I get to share with you a day of my eats! This time, it is from Monday! As always, a big thank you to Jenn for creating this link up! Let’s get to the food!

What I Ate Wednesday Monday

For breakfast, I had kamut puffs with blackberries and almond milk. I have been loving kamut puffs lately, they don’t really taste of much, but I like the crunch that they have!12463735_10157034586435377_1972403616_nA little while later before heading to the gym, I had a kinder egg surprise from Christmas. I’ve been trying to save them, but I only have one left 😑12435885_10157034586455377_1152384123_nI had a really great, sweaty workout on Monday so after getting home, I immediately jumped in the shower. My post workout meal was a little weird, but it tasted really good. I had ground chicken, green beans and scrambled egg whites/egg. All topped with ketchup of course!12463677_10157034586510377_1782080836_nI had breakfast for dinner and made protein waffles! I used my new chocolate peanut butter protein. I also topped them with some syrup and salted caramel peanut butter! 12443181_10157034586550377_164626752_nA little while later, I snacked on some yogurt and blueberries!12434423_10157034586540377_15047121_nFinally, while watching Big Bang Theory, I had some of my hoof prints frozen yogurt with caramel sauce.12459873_10157034586590377_150651120_nIt was a great day of eats! Have a great Wednesday!

What are your favourite yogurt toppings?

Are there any weird food combos you’ve eaten lately?

Christmas Recap

Good Morning! I hope you had a great Christmas if you celebrate it and have been enjoying the holidays!

I had a wonderful time with family that I wish could last a couple days longer. Today, I wanted to share a recap of my Christmas on the blog! I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!

On Christmas Eve, my mom, her boyfriend, my aunt, and I went to the Christmas Eve service at the church by my grandmother’s. It was a pretty quick service, but it was nice to start Christmas out that way.

After church, my mom, her boyfriend, and I headed to my sister’s house to spend Christmas Eve with her and her girlfriend. We had taco dip, sweets, and played a couple board games! 12442814_10157029126085377_1783693295_nI had been wanting to play Life for awhile so we played that first!12434386_10157029126175377_1387496587_nI didn’t end up winning, but it was still really fun! We all headed to bed shortly after eleven. I knew I had a busy day ahead of me for Christmas so I wanted to get to sleep.12443225_10157029126045377_1506303326_nThis was my planner for Christmas Day and eat lots I did!

After waking up multiple times throughout the night, I got out of bed around 8 and started to make breakfast for everyone. I was making Monkey Bread while my sister got to work on the pancakes and eggs. 12459558_10157029126360377_2102966569_nAfter eating, we all gathered in the living room to open presents. I didn’t ask for anything so I was curious what I was going to get. My mom gave me some more kitchen stuff (including an awesome frying pan!) My sister surprised me with ski goggles! I’m excited to try them out a couple times this winter. I am so grateful for my family and what they gifted me this year.12436152_10157029126230377_1060420741_nLater that afternoon around 1:30 I sat down to the first of three turkey dinners in a 5 hour time frame. The first one was at my Grammie’s then I went to my dad’s and I finished off at my sister’s. My sister’s was definitely my favourite and I went back for a second plate plus I ate two pieces of pie.12431203_10157029126425377_130604480_n

It was a great day spent with people I love!

Boxing Day was another day I was looking forward to as we always go to my aunt and uncle’s for lunch. There was all kinds of food there as well as 10 different desserts! It was a great afternoon!

We were going to have lunch at my other aunt’s house yesterday, but we had a snowstorm that brought around 20cm of snow so it was cancelled.

All in all, it was a great few days spent with people I love and great food!

Have a great day!

Friday Favourites #37: Week of 12/25

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you’re having a great day with your family! christmas-meme-14.jpgI’ve typed this up earlier in the week so I wouldn’t have to take away from my family. I really wanted to share my Christmas favourites this week seeing how Friday Favourites is falling on Christmas!

Friday Favourites #37: Week of 12/25 (Christmas Edition)Friday Favs WinterMy number one favourite thing about Christmas is spending time with my family. Christmas is the one time of the year where I know I’ll get to see almost all of my extended family.

Ugly Sweater party with my sister from a couple years ago

Another one of my favourite things about Christmas is the food! There’s nothing better than Christmas dinner and all of the desserts that come with it! I also love that baking that comes along with Christmas!12380247_10156976813195377_1696253988_nI also really love the Christmas movies and Christmas music. I’ve watched some new movies this year that I really enjoyed! I never realized how many Christmas movies Candace Cameron-Bure was in! I love the classics too! As for Christmas music, there’s nothing I love more than Michael Bublé’s Christmas album or Kenny and Dolly singing I’ll Be There With Bells On. There’s just something about holiday music and movies that brightens my mood.christmas-meme-13This might be a silly favourite, but I really enjoy wrapping presents! There’s just something about it that I find really soothing. Plus, it makes me excited to see the recipient’s face when they open it!ef703747e252032073f610980bc1accbSomething we used to do growing up that I loved was going to see Christmas lights. I always loved seeing the houses that went all out! I hope to do the same when I have a family of my own!

Those are a few of my favourite things about Christmas! I hope you have a great time with your loved ones over the next few days! christmas-meme-32

Thanks for the link ups Heather and Katie!

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas and the holidays?

thinking out loud #6

Good Morning! Happy Christmas Eve!

This week sure has flown by. I’m hoping the next few days go a little slower. Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year because I get to spend time with my loved ones. I don’t get to see some of them very often so I am very grateful that we all get to be together for a little while anyways.

I wanted to pop in today to do a little thinking out loud in the form of a Christmas survey! I love doing these and given the time of the year, I couldn’t think of a better one to do. Thanks for the link up Amanda!Thinking-Out-Loud2

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? How about white peppermint hot chocolate haha. I like sweet things so I’m leaning more towards hot chocolate, but I’m also a fan of egg nog.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Growing up, they were unwrapped. I have no idea what I’ll do when I have a family of my own.

3. Coloured lights on tree/house or white? I like the look of white lights on a tree and on the house. I like that you can add colour with the ornaments and other decorations!

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope, never have growing up.

5. When do you hang your decorations up? I don’t do any decorating myself yet and I can’t remember from when I was younger. I have a feeling I’m going to be one of those people that does it early though.

6. What is your favourite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Turkey with cranberry sauce (the homemade stuff, not that gross canned jelly one!) I love having it as leftovers in sandwiches too!

7. Favourite holiday memory as a child? When we were younger we used to get up at a ridiculous hour on Christmas morning because we were so excited. One Christmas, my sister woke my mom around 4 in the morning and she told my sister to go back to bed for another hour. My mom then went to the bathroom and while she was gone, my sister set the clock in my parent’s room ahead before going back to her room. A few minutes later, my sister runs back to my parent’s room saying it’s been another hour. My mom sees the time on the clock so we all get up. It wasn’t until we had finished opening presents that she realized what my sister had done!

8. What is on your Christmas wishlist? Honestly, the only I need is money to pay bills and my student loans back. I don’t really have anything on my wishlist except that.

9. Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve? As a kid, we were always allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve. Usually, we would pick my Aunt Pat’s because she always gave us new Barbies.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? I actually haven’t decorated a tree in a few years, but my dad’s tree has white lights with silver garland and silver, blue, and white ornaments.

11. Snow? Love it or dread it? I love it to an extent. After the winter we had last year, I’m hoping we don’t get as much snow. I love it so I can go skiing, but I’m not a fan of when it gets messy out.

12. Real tree or fake tree? We’ve always had fake trees, but when I have a place of my own and a tree, I’ll be getting a real one!

13. Do you remember your favourite gift? This is going to be lame, but for the past few years, my mom has been getting my things for the kitchen so when I move out, I’ll have most of the stuff already. So far, I have silverware, pots/pans, knife block, blender, and a few other little things!

14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you? Hands down getting to see my family and spending time with them. Also, the food is pretty important too haha.

15. What is your favourite holiday dessert? Pumpkin Pie!

16. What is your favourite tradition? My aunt and uncle always do a brunch/lunch on Boxing Day and it’s one of my favourite traditions. I get to see my cousins and we always laugh a lot. It’s a fun afternoon and I look forward to it every year.

17. What tops your tree? We had an angel growing up.

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? I’m not that great at coming up with gifts for people, but I love the look on their face when they open it so I would say giving.

19. What is your favourite Christmas song? Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – Michael Bublé! Actually anything off his Christmas album!

20. Candy canes, yuck or yum? Yum!

21. Favourite Christmas movie? How am I suppose to choose? I really like The Holiday, Miracle on 34th Street, and the claymation Rudolph movie with the elf that wants to be a dentist!

22. What do you leave for Santa? Growing up, we left him cookies, milk, carrots for his reindeer, and a note.

23. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition? Not really anymore, but when I was younger, we used to wake up, make breakfast, and then open our stockings while eating.

24. Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall? It depends what I’m buying, but usually the mall. I don’t really buy that much online.

25. Christmas letter or Christmas card? I don’t think we’ve ever done anything with pictures, but I know my mom always sent Christmas cards out. I really like the idea of doing a Christmas card picture every year, maybe when I have a family of my own I’ll do that.

Those are all the questions! Have a great day!

Feel free to answer any of the questions from the survey ☺

Good Morning! Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve and the day after is Christmas! I’ve been watching all of the Christmas movies before they aren’t on anymore!

It’s Wednesday so it’s time to share what I put into my body yesterday! Jenn started this baby as a place for people to share a sneak peek into their eating. This is done without comparison, guilt, judgement, or restriction. This is one of my favourite link ups so I owe a big thank you to Jenn for creating it!

Now onto the food!

What I Ate Wednesday Tuesday

Even though it snowed throughout the night, I was craving something cold after a sweaty workout. I made a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Banana Smoothie Bowl! I used up the last of my PEScience Select protein with this and I’m very sad about that. This was delicious though! I didn’t even add any toppings because I was so hungry.12399161_10157010081875377_159561193_nAfter inhaling the smoothie bowl, I headed out to run a few errands. I got home a few hours later and started thinking about what I would eat next. I decided on an egg white and egg omelette with red peppers and deli turkey meat. I also added ketchup on top which is a new favourite with eggs. I never used to like, but now I need to have it when I have eggs!12399241_10157010082170377_1415651737_nI spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning until I found my self with a rumbling stomach. I made a really simple burrito bowl that lacked salsa and guac, but it was still pretty tasty. I used brown rice, ground chicken with taco seasoning, green peppers, yellow peppers, cheese, and some plain Greek yogurt.12421611_10157010081980377_1347907645_nI finished my night off with a bowl of Hoof Prints frozen yogurt with caramel sauce and two Thin Mints! Fun fact: besides Thin Mints, I’ve only ever had the regular vanilla and chocolate Girl Guide cookies. Thin Mints are definitely my favourite though!1060965_10157010082090377_292201160_nI hope you have a great day!

Do you need to have any condiments with your eggs?

What’s your favourite kind of Girl Guide cookies?

Winter 2016 Workout Playlist

Good Morning! How is your Christmas week going?

I don’t usually post on a Tuesday, but I wanted to share a playlist with you. The new year will quickly be upon us and many will have the resolution to go to the gym more. Even if you’re already a regular gym goer, I’m hoping to give you a few more songs to add to your workout playlist!

These songs are a mix of songs from this past year and there’s a mix of music too. I have Justin Bieber and Reba McEntire on here. I like having a mix of music genres and songs that really get me pumped up. I may or may not have gotten a little dance on while at the gym before.

Anyways, I hope you can find a song or two that you enjoy!winter2016plyylistIn making this playlist, I wanted you to be able to listen to it online so I put them into a Spotify playlist. I’ve never been that into Spotify, but I think I might be now. I love how easy it is to make a playlist and share it!

Have a good day!
