Hey guys! How was your weekend? Did you have time to relax or was it nonstop?
I’d just like to apologize for coming to you a little later than usual. Matthias and I were away until today and I had forgotten to plan another post. Since we ended up cancelling our trip to London, Matthias’ dad very kindly suggested we go somewhere else. I am very grateful for his generosity and I would love to share with you what we did.
We headed out for our road trip on Friday afternoon. Matthias’ dad was kind enough to treat us for the weekend! We were headed for Husum, which is a town in North Germany by the North Sea. We arrived a couple hours later, checked into our hotel, then after dropping our bags in our room, we headed out to explore.
We walked by the Schloss vor Husum which was built in 1582 and was where the dukes of Holstein-Gottorp lived. We also walked down the cutest little lane with shops. I love walking around places this time of the year because Christmas decorations are starting to be put up!Once we were in the main shopping area, it started to rain. Although, wet from the rain, I really enjoyed seeing the different stores and decorations! At one point it was raining pretty hard so we decided to head into a bakery for something warm and a little treat. I had green tea and a piece of apple cake. After waiting out the rain for about a half hour, we decided to head back to the hotel and dry off for a few hours before supper. We went to an Italian restaurant for supper. I went with a Hawaiian pizza that was pretty good. It was too much for me to eat so I happily took about half of it back to the hotel.
We woke up Saturday ready to explore some more. After an amazing breakfast (one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had) we planned out our day. First, we headed to Friedrichstadt. This town is known for it’s resemblance to Holland. Matthias and I both agreed that we should come back to this town in the summer. For a Saturday, there weren’t many shops or people around. I think it had to do with what time of the year it is. After spending about a half hour walking around, we headed for another town. I don’t remember the name of it, but we walked around for quite some time.We popped into a cafe in the late afternoon to warm up. We both got apple cake and hot chocolate! On a side note, I’ve decided wherever I go, I have to either try apple cake or Hawaiian pizza. We woke up Sunday to snow!I wish I would have taken another picture when we actually went outside, but we actually had to clean the car off. It made me feel like I was back in Canada a little bit.
Anyways, we braved the cold to try and get to the North Sea. We weren’t very successful though. Again, I think it’s because of the time of year that we went, but it was still fun to explore what we could!
All in all, it was a great weekend spent with my favourite person!
